And whoever does not
provide for relatives, and especially for family members, has denied the faith
and is worse than an unbeliever.

Saving for Retirement and
other Long Term Goals
Reflection Question:
What have been my best strategies for saving for the long-term goals of my
family?
“The land of a rich man
produced abundantly.
And he thought to himself, 'What should
I do, for I have no place to store my crops? ‘Then he said, 'I will do this: I
will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my
grain and my goods.
And I will say to my soul, 'Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years;
relax, eat, drink, be merry.'
But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of
you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So it is with those
who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.”
—Luke 12:16-21
6 But I alone went often to Jerusalem
for the festivals, as it is prescribed for all Israel by an everlasting decree.
I would hurry off to Jerusalem with the first fruits of the crops and the
firstlings of the flock, the tithes of the cattle, and the first shearings of
the sheep.
7 I would give these to the priests, the
sons of Aaron, at the altar; likewise the tenth of the grain, wine, olive oil,
pomegranates, figs, and the rest of the fruits to the sons of Levi who
ministered at Jerusalem.
Also for six years I would save up a second tenth in money and go and
distribute it in Jerusalem.
8 A third tenth I would give to the
orphans and widows and to the converts who had attached themselves to
Israel.
Tobit 1:6-8a
Each of you must give as you have made
up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful
giver.
