The Nature of Righteous Anger
It intends the correction of vice
It always has at the center the best interest of the confronted party
It is often referred to as “tough love” or “loving the sinner but hating the
sin”
It endeavors to restrain evil
It seeks to protect those who might be victimized by the person’s sinful
acts
It seeks the restoration of justice
Its end is for the confronted person’s repentance, contrition, restitution,
and amendment of life
Its ultimate hope is for the person’s reconciliation with God and the
neighbor
It embodies an attitude of humility
Our knowledge of the right course is not always clear
Our mixed motives can cause righteous anger to spin quickly into selfish
anger
Therefore, any confrontations must be undertaken prayerfully and
humbly
