Friedrich Schleiermacher (1768-1834)
Raised a Moravian, during his university
years, he studied rationalism and idealism.
He became a professor in Berlin, where he
taught the rest of his career.
Between 1822 and 1831, he published his
master work Der christliche Glaube nach den
Grundsätzen der evangelischen Kirche.
This volume provided the intellectual
foundations for the movement that would
subsequently become know as Liberal
Protestantism.
